My Story
Hi, I'm Dan Miller, the owner of Northern Forest Woodworks.
Woodworking is a craft that combines creativity, technical skill, and problem-solving. I enjoy taking an idea, whether it's a rough sketch or a detailed design, and turning it into something that is both functional and built to last.
Over the past decade, I've had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of custom furniture and architectural millwork projects. Throughout that time, I've developed a deep appreciation for the importance of thoughtful design, precise planning, and quality craftsmanship. Every successful project begins with clear communication and careful attention to detail, long before the first piece of wood is cut.
In addition to running Northern Forest Woodworks, I also teach as a professor in the Furniture and Cabinetmaking programs at a respected Ontario post-secondary institution. Working with the next generation of cabinetmakers allows me to stay closely connected to current industry practices while sharing the knowledge and techniques I've gained throughout my career. Teaching continually reinforces the same standards of accuracy, craftsmanship, and attention to detail that I bring to every project.
As my experience grew, so did my interest in the design and planning side of the industry. I found that creating detailed AutoCAD drawings was just as rewarding as building the finished product. Because I've spent years in the shop, I understand how drawings are interpreted on the manufacturing floor. That practical experience allows me to produce drawing packages that not only communicate the design clearly but also support an efficient, accurate build process.
Today, Northern Forest Woodworks brings those two disciplines together. Whether I'm preparing production-ready drawings for a cabinet shop, designing a custom built-in for a homeowner, or crafting a one-of-a-kind furniture piece, my goal remains the same: to deliver work that is thoughtful, precise, and built with care.
